First off may i say Thank You for buying something from my shop :) This is my only income due to ill health and every order is very much appreciated and keeps the lights on here at NIcs Creation Corner.
For best results , due to the fact that all my moulds are made to order, its best to let them totally cure/dry before use.. so take them out of the bag and place them on a flat surface away from sunlight or extremes of temperature for a day (outside the uk) or a few days if in the uk (shipping times means the latex will be mostly cured by the time it reaches overseas).
If you are wanting to use them for resin based products i would give them a rinse with warm mildly soapy water, then rinse with clean water and allow to dry before use.
Care of your moulds
Origins :
The Origins of Latex: A Natural Wonder This natural rubber latex, a milky sap, is found in the tree's bark, and has been an integral part of human history for centuries. The process of tapping rubber trees to extract latex is an ancient practice that dates back to indigenous societies in the Amazon basin.
Making sure your moulds stay in tip top condition for as long as possible is the key to good casting. The best way to do this is follow a few simple rules:-
- Latex is a natural product, taken from the sap of trees so needs to be treated kindly to get the best results from it.
- Never expose your moulds to extremes of temperature, as this will damage the latex.
- Store in a moisture free environment.
- Avoid contact with all metals, inc paints , as this will damage the latex and reduce length of usable life.
- Avoid strong sunlight as this can damage the latex.
- When storing your moulds remember latex has memory, so make sure there is adequate space so moulds are not squashed together.
- If storing for long periods do so in a suitable cardboard box. Powder (talc based products) the outsides to stop stickiness. And pack the inside of the moulds with cotton wool/bubble wrap to help keep shape.
- If using washing up liquid/soap when de moulding, make sure that the moulds are properly rinsed with clean water and allowed to fully dry before storing, as detergents can degrade the latex.
